Fall has arrived; the leaves are changing colors and cooler air is here. Often, we see fall as a time to sit back, reflect on the year and wonder what will the next year be like. Well, first, let’s think about 2020? As you reflect, is it anything like you would have imagined? What of 2020 will you remember as your first thought? How will you move forward with that thought?

When we read God’s Word (Isaiah 55), “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts,” what comes to mind? Does trusting that God knows what is going on cross your mind? Maybe He knows what He is doing? Or, are we caught up in fear and finding ourselves stuck? Worried? Grasping at straws?

Let’s add to this thought, “Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter, we are all the work of your hand.” (Isaiah 64:8) Um, well, what does this say? God is a potter, and we are His clay. A potter molds the clay to be the image in his eye. Wow, let that sink in! We are the image of God’s eye! What feelings does that invoke in you?

“So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” (Genesis 1:27) You are created to be the person God created you to be, in His image.

When something is created or someone is created, would you agree that there is a purpose in mind? A piece of pottery is created to hold something; a person is created to do something. Through God’s Word we read, God has work for us to do. What work, you ask? One of the most common questions or requests I hear, is what am I supposed to do? What is my purpose in life? How will I know that I am doing what God wants me to do?

In this season of uncertainty, confusion and unanswered questions, we may find it difficult to understand our purpose. May I encourage you to seek God with all your heart, ask God your questions and through His Word, He promises to tell us things we do not understand. (Jeremiah 33:3)

May you be blessed as you discover your purpose in this season; knowing God’s plans are higher than the heavens and He has purposely created you in His image!
